18 Gloucester Lane holds an important place in Toronto's cultural history. Commissioned in 1911 by prominent furniture-maker Lionel Rawlinson as a factory, repair shop, and storage facility, the building later entered a new chapter when it was purchased in the 1970s by acclaimed filmmaker Norman Jewison, to serve as his Toronto filmmaking headquarters and collaborative hub.
Our renovation approached the building with a light hand. Rather than imposing a new identity, the work focused on removal, curation, and careful intervention — revealing the building's layered history and rugged industrial character while introducing the ammenities required for its new use as a contemporary boutique office space.
